MATERIALS
If you’ve ever wondered why you would choose one tent fabric over another, or questioned what type of insulation would be best for you, you’ve come to the right place.
DAC ALUMINUM
DAC makes aluminum tent poles that have incredible strength to weight ratios. Utilizing both Featherlite and Pressfit pole sets in Sierra Designs tents, we’re able to shave weight, increase strength, and increase internal volume, all without adding additional poles, to give you a more comfortable, packable tent.
POLYESTER
Polyester is utilized in our Pack N Go collection of tents and bags due to its incredible strength to weight ratio. Polyester fabrics are incredibly durable, yet lightweight enough to be taken out on the trail without issue. And, when things get wet, Polyester has a tendency to dry out a bit faster than Nylon, and retain less water.
NYLON
Nylon materials are utilized throughout our Pushing the Limits tents and sleeping bags because they pack small and light. Nylon is lighter than polyester and is more compressible, making it a perfect fit for our lightweight backpacking tents and bags. Compared to Polyester, Nylon will soak up a bit more water and take longer to dry, so make sure to air everything out at the end of a trip!
MESH
We utilize a 15D Nylon No-See-Um mesh on our tent bodies, throughout both Pack N’ Go and Pushing the Limits lines. Mesh reduces weight and increases breathability, so we utilize wherever possible to make a more comfortable tent.
DriDown™ is natural down insulation treated with a molecular level polymer, creating a hydrophobic finish on individual down plumes. All Sierra Designs down is DriDown™, and the result is insulation that stays dry longer, lofts better, and dries faster than untreated down. Every product made with DriDown from Sierra Designs will include a “Track My Down” hangtag. Punch in your lot number to figure out where your down came from! READ MORE
