Had 2 days of rain and drizzle during an extended hike along the Haute Route in Switzerland. It was mostly open trail walking with occasional forest shrub and trees and a little bit of rock crawling.
Worked well with the cagoulle system. I heat up easily and sweat profusely and, for my first time using it, the whole system was significantly cooler and less wet. It was longer than ideal but did not abrade on the ground. I'd rather have it larger than smaller. That's an easy fix later. I have larger thighs and these were a comfortable fit where it mattered to me. I'll fix the length later.
Nice and lightweight. Waterproof as advertised.
Resisted plants and pine needles but did get scuffed with branches and slight tear-thru's on calf-level rocks. Would like to see if a bit sturdier over the knees and front of legs, perhaps a second layer or thicker front. Terry on Jul 27th 2018
Last week had a long day hiking in these and they worked superbly. Over about 7 miles of intermittent drizzle and then several hours of light to medium constant rain, they kept my legs dry.
I was using this with the SD cagoule top and it worked well as a loose system for hiking. I suspect the inside was about 1/3 less moist from perspiration as other rainwear systems.
Overall I am please with the purchase of the SD chaps and cagoule.
The only con is that you can only put one leg in at a time....not a big deal to me, but I had to think of one con. TG on Sep 25th 2017
Love rain chaps and, for the most part, am happy with these chaps. Last pair I had, though, had snaps to fasten the straps that hold the chaps up by looping around belt or belt loops and they were much much much easier to use and adjust. I find the contraption used w/ these chaps to be difficult to use. I took them off and sewed on snaps for myself. much easier to use when hands are cold or wet. jipster on Mar 22nd 2017
I used this product for my thru-hike of the Colorado Trail this year. They performed flawlessly in combination with the Elite Cagoule (see other review). The chaps are very easy to get on and off and the length can be easily adjusted using the attachment strap. I loved the accessibility they provided to the pockets (and fly) of my hiking pants. I also used them as gators wen hiking through wet vegetation even when it wasn't raining. They are not too hot for that. This is a super product. Bill on Aug 19th 2016
I purchased these last year and I love them to the old rain pants as I am more comfortable and love the extra freedom you have wearing them. I also purchased the new trench and together they make a great combo. Trailgator AT 98 on May 17th 2016
