    1. Lightweight Backpacking Tent

I needed a 4-season lightweight, large backpacking tent. Due to the ratings and awards, I gave it a chance due to size and weight from a reputable brand.

      This tent nails it on:

      Weight - so light!
      Floor space - so big!
OnTrail space - easy to split the weight with your tent mate!
Vestibule option - perfect for storing backpacks, camp chairs and boots - we loved this!

      This tent has an in-between:

Tent Setup - The setup is not fast but isn't slow. There is one main pole that is very large with two attached cross bars along with a cross bar that attaches to the main pole. Since the tent is so big, this bar is a bit cumbersome but definitely not a deal breaker. Include the vestibule and the setup takes a bit longer.

This tent has a few flaws:

The One Fly and Body Fabric - Lots of moisture accumulated inside the tent and between the two fabrics. Not sure if this was due to camping in the desert but all items inside the tent were damp the next morning when it didn't even rain during the night. This was one of the main reasons why I didn't give this tent a 5 star ratng. Also the fabric being all one piece allowed for longer drying time.

The Door - The door opens as an upside down 'U'. Hence, the door lays on the ground when it is open. There is no other way to open it. This creates for a dirty inside when you zip the door up and even when you try to shake the tent out it gets in the way. This is just a bad design and lost a star because of it.

The Zippers - The zippers have a resistance to them. Not sure if it was due to camping in the desert with lots of dirt or not. Feels like they are going to break anytime.

The Color - Yellow attracts dirt. If you want a 'clean' looking tent, yellow is not the best color.

For the price, I think there should be no flaws and 100% 'nailed in' features. I will still enjoy my tent since it's easy on the back and so giving on the space!

    2. A tent for any occasion

Over the years I've bought a number of tents for the many different types of camping I do. Small fast & light tent for a quick night away as well as a slightly larger tents that are heavier & a little slower to erect/pack up for those longer trips. What I liked straight away about the SD Convert 2 is that it does both jobs. This is a lovely looking tent, that will get a lot of tent envy. As they say on the SD site it is easy set up with what feels like loads of space, you can really feel the quality. The only thing I thought could have been better was the standard V tentpegs that came with it, maybe that's just personal preference. As a side note (Sierra Designs marketing team are you listening?) When I was looking to purchase I wish there was more about it on the net, 2 videos on YouTube and the Sierra Designs website wasn't much to go on for the significant cash layout I was considering. It's is the most I've shelled out for a tent but you know, It's worth it. on Apr 12th 2016

    3. Customer Review

My experience with this tent is so far limited to good weather. The good: Great concept tent with good execution of the idea - quality construction, materials. Roomy but light. Easy to pitch. The not so good: Rain fly- attached to the tent, is not taught when pitched, with a lot of material hanging loosely on tent wall (mostly lower). This means that, one, wet fly wet wall. And two, even the slightest breeze will keep rubbing the two fabrics creating an anoing sound. My solution would be a taughter design (less fly material?), or small loops at the bottom of the fly to allow for guy lines (will probably sow in myself). 2nd smallish but anoing issue is the footprint, which for it's price should fit nice and snug. Instead, its measurements seem to be off with the straps too loose and constantly coming off tent poles. I think this tent is a game changer, but needs some tweeking. on Mar 4th 2016

    4. Customer Review

Took tent on an over night trip. Worked fantastic, no condensation. Setup was very easy, I do recommend people set it up at home first before going on a test run. The only thing that I didn't like, which isn't a big deal, the vestibule pole loops got on really tight and during take down I tore the material around loop. I plan on returning it and getting a new covert. Great tent would recommend to anybody looking for a tent for two. on Mar 1st 2015
