This jacket was purchased 10/12/2017 in size Large. When I purchased it the website listed the weight of the jacket as a little over 6 ounces. When I called customer service they assured me that the weight was accurate. Here is a link from the wayback machine to show you what I am talking about.
Upon receiving the product the weight was roughly three times what was listed and what was assured to me over the phone. But despite this I gave the jacket a fair shake. It is seriously lacking. The FireBall down is a small, compact ball of fibers that has tendrils that branch off, leaving the majority weight of this new insulation compacted in this ball providing no real loft whatsoever. The fill is very uneven, multiple baffles have little to almost no insulation at all inside of them. After trying out the 32° Mens Down Jacket with Hood from Costco, which only cost $25, I am even less impressed with this item as it cannot even compete with head to head with that item. The $25 jacket from Costco weighs less, compacts smaller, has more even fill distribution, lofts higher and stays warmer.
My advice is to spend slightly more on a better performing synthetic from a different manufacturer. That this FireBall insulation is Sierra Designs flagship synthetic in 2017 tells me they do not care about real performance when it comes to synthetics.
