I had the 2013 version of the Flash 3 tent, which I liked a lot had two gripes about it- I did not like the way that the rainfly left a wide gap at the ground and that the storm flaps could not be completely closed. I actually bought two different tents from another manufacturer, but found the condensation inside those tents intolerable (I also live in Hawaii) and missed the views of the outside world from inside the tent and ended up returning those tents.
I've had the updated version of the Flash 3 tent for a few months now and am very happy with it. No condensation issues at all. Love the views and the stargazing feature and that it can be closed up completely for privacy or rain. My only grip is that I wish it were wide enough that I could sleep 90 degrees from how it's designed (like the 2013 version). As the person who ends up sleeping in the middle (between my son and wife), I inevitably find myself having to climb over one of them get out of the tent. C on Jul 26th 2017
Love the tent and Erinn at Sierra Designs was so helpful with replacing our old Sierra Designs 1980's era tent.
The new Flash 3 is very roomy for two people, and we each have our own doors. And, it has been rain tested quite a bit! We and all of our stuff in the tent stayed dry. A VERY BIG PLUS. Might be crowded for 3 people, but possible. The outside storage under the fly is great.
A couple of suggestions for improvement. The main poles are pretty long to slide through the sleeves - maybe just have hooks on the outside the tent to hook onto the poles? Also, the awnings over the entrances are great in rain, but it would be nice if they could retract during nice weather for easier entry. However, that is a significant design issue, so not sure how it would work.
Overall, we are very pleased. Unknown on May 6th 2017
1) this is for the older version. I'm bummed I bought it right before the new version came out (with roll up sides). That would really make an already outstanding tent absolutely perfect. (Hey Sierra Designs, how about hooking up owners with a new version at a discounted price? nod nod, wink wink.)
Review: I was looking for a tent for tropical weather. I live in Hawaii and it just gets too hot and humid here for a tent without excellent ventilation. At the same time, it can rain at any time. So I researched around and knew exactly what I wanted.
The Flash 3 is a really perfect tent for this setting. Light and small enough for backpacking, but sturdy and well built. Most importantly it is very well ventilated.
In terms of quality, I've owned tents from Hilleberg and others and this tent is right up there with anyone's quality and attention to detail.
At 6'2 and my wife is 5'8 I would say this tent is a roomy 2 person tent with great headroom. I would say for 3 people use at least two had better be gymnasts or something.
My only gripe is with the footprint I bought. It simply does not fit well. I double checked and it is definitely the right one, but is just terrible. Since its not actually part of the tent, I won't knock the stars, but it is something to be aware of. I would have just made my own had I known it would be so lousy.
All in all, the perfect tropical tent. If I was camping in the desert or something, I would prefer a removable fly, but since you never know when its going to rain here, the design is outstanding. David on Nov 19th 2016
I had ordered this model specifically to attend a camping trip on Maui with purchase instructions I would need it by a certain date, (8 days from purchase) and even offering to pay for expedite shipping.
Unfortunately the tent didn't arrive in the time I requested and we had to purchase another emergency tent for the trip.
I have used Sierra design tents previously and drifted off to other companies over the last 10 years...with this innovative flash 3 model I wanted to give them another try.
The tent is now set up in my living room and it is fricken' cool with the 4 side ventilation options. Great materials, nice color combos, and high quality poles.Perfect for humid, Hawaiian camping adventures. Great job on your products, please, please help with the customer service. I would like to continue being a customer.

I am so happy I procrastinated my purchase of the Flash 3 tent until 2016. First, I just love the one piece design. So easy to set up. The structure of the tent makes it so roomy inside. I just love the large doors (2) for gazing outside the tent. For 2016, the ability to roll up the two sides for airflow/openness takes this tent to a new level. Have I mentioned how much I hate rain flies - both the effort putting them on (I am lazy) and then cover the tent so completely I feel claustrophobic. I live in North Carolina so the ability to have good airflow is important AND I love being able to see outside. SD team - you have done a really awesome job on this tent! Unknown on Apr 8th 2016
