My wife and I, along with another couple, hiked into the Pecos Wilderness in northern New Mexico a couple weekends ago.

It had been raining a lot the last couple days, and because this was our friends' first trip into the wilderness at about 11,000 feet, I was concerned about them not enjoying the trip and getting wet.

They assured me that they had the gear and really wanted to go. So off we went.

We got to our camp site at around 3 pm and started setting up camp. When my friend Matt pulled out their tent, I thought he was joking. He had recently purchaced it at Oshmans for $13. It had no rain fly and a little mesh opening in the door.

When I saw this, I took out my footprint and put it over the top of their tent to at least try and keep the rain off the top of the tent. Needless to say, it started to rain around 5 pm and did not stop until 1am.

In the morning, my wife and I got up from a very nice night, dry and well rested. As I was getting a fire started, our friends came out of their tent looking tired and cold.

When I asked how they slept, they replied "like slepping on a waterbed." Her hair was wet and looked as if she had just taken a shower.

They are now in the market for a new tent. And after seeing how well my Meteor Light performed, they will probably look to Sierra designs.
